The California Fair Political Practices Commission requires public entities to post a written policy stating the specific governmental or public purpose to be accomplished by the distribution of tickets. Tickets distributed by the public entity in furtherance of the public policy need not be reported as gifts. All other tickets donated by an outside source or purchased by the public entity for admission to a facility, event, show, or performance for an entertainment, amusement, recreational or similar purpose must be reported as a gift.
The Port of Long Beach is in a competitive environment, and it is critical that Port officials and specific employees participate in promoting the Port to shipping lines, terminal operators and businesses considering Long Beach as a potential import and export location.
The Port has also focused efforts on attracting new development and businesses into the harbor. New development and jobs will improve the quality of life for all residents and contribute new revenue to support vital Port services. It is essential that Port officials and specific employees participate in events that further the Port’s goals.
In order to further the above public and governmental purpose, a Port representative (official or employee) may accept two (2) tickets for events from the Communications Division of the Port, one for themselves and one for their spouse, in accordance with the following policy:
For the promotion of the Port of Long Beach to prospective clients considering Long Beach as an import/export location or other Port-related business. Port officials and staff will be required to interface with clients and promote the Port.
Tickets from an outside source must be submitted to the Communications Division for distribution in compliance with the Port's policy and should not be given directly to, or accepted by, Port officials or employees.
The use of tickets purchased by the Port and donated by outside sources for the above Port purposes will be posted on this site within 30 days after distribution of the tickets.
