Richard D. Steinke joined the Port in 1990 and was appointed to his current post as Executive Director by the Board of Harbor Commissioners in 1997. He has led a talented staff in launching a pioneering Green Port Policy, and paving the way for the Harbor Commission to approve the milestone San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan.

J. Christopher Lytle is the Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, appointed in 2008 to serve as the Port’s number two executive. Before joining the Port in 2006 as Managing Director, he was Vice President of CMA CGM, responsible for all West Coast Operations.

Diane Jacobus became Protocol Officer for the Port of Long Beach in August 2006 and in the fall of 2007 was promoted to the position of Assistant Executive Officer to the Board of Harbor commissioners, moving into the position of Acting Executive Officer to the Board in May 2009.

Dr. Robert G. Kanter is the Managing Director of Environmental Affairs and Planning for the Port of Long Beach with more than 30 years of experience. Dr. Kanter guides the Port’s environmental, transportation, and master land use planning divisions. He coordinates short- and long-range land use planning with an eye toward forecasted commodity trends in international trade and commerce.
