An environmentally friendly port
In January 2005, the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners adopted an historic Green Port Policy making environmental protection a top priority. With this policy, the Port commits to:
- Protect the local community and environment from harmful port impacts.
- Employ the best available technology to minimize port impacts and explore advance technology solutions.
- Promote sustainability in terminal design, development and operations.
- Distinguish the Port as a leader in environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance.
- Engage and educate the community about Port development and environmental programs
The Green Port Policy provides a framework for prioritizing environmental efforts and is a further expansion of more than a decade of environmental programs developed and implemented by the Port to protect the harbor environment and enhance wildlife habitats.
