August 22, 2012
Breathe California of Los Angeles County has received a grant of $355,874 from the Port's health grant fund to bring its "O24U" program to children in Long Beach after-school groups. The program teaches children in air pollution-impacted areas about air pollution and its effect on health. Educators offer advice for asthma management.
Children learn about indoor air quality, environmental changes as well as alternative fuels and renewable energy. Children, typically ages 8-14, learn how make changes in their communities by using nontoxic cleaners, recycling and advocating for clean air.
