Street, Off-ramp, Bridge Lane Closures this Weekend in Port

Construction to shut Harbor Plaza, Pico Ave. exit at separate times

August 23, 2012

Harbor Plaza, a street near the Port of Long Beach Administration Building, will close from 6 a.m. to noon, Saturday, August 25. And as soon as Harbor Plaza reopens, the Pico Avenue exit from southbound Harbor Scenic Drive/710 Freeway in the Port will be closed from noon to 6 p.m. that day.

Meanwhile, only one eastbound lane on the Gerald Desmond Bridge will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, August 25 and 26. Motorists should expect delays. The lane closures are needed for routine maintenance.

Harbor Plaza, which has already been narrowed since spring to two lanes -- one in each direction -- will be fully closed Saturday morning from Pico to Harbor Scenic for continuing work on a waterline replacement project.

Port of Long Beach Harbor Patrol officers will be stationed at both ends of Harbor Plaza, and can provide, if necessary, access to the Admin Building via the Pico side, and to the Maintenance Facilities construction site from the Harbor Scenic side.

The Pico off-ramp -- identified as the "Pier F, G Pico Ave" exit -- is to be closed while Southern California Edison crews erect new transmission poles.

The best alternate route is to exit the southbound 710 earlier, just after the Anaheim Street exit. Take the exit labeled "Piers B C D E Pico Avenue" and follow the signs to your destination.
