The Port of Long Beach sponsored the 28th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 15 at the beach next to Belmont Plaza Pool. The Port, which sponsored the event in partnership with the El Dorado Nature Center, handed out beach buckets to volunteers. California Coastal Cleanup Day is the state’s largest annual volunteer event. In 2011, more than 71,794 volunteers removed more than 1.3 million pounds of trash and recyclables from local beaches, lakes, and waterways statewide.
