Port Assists Aquarium with Turtle Release

September 5, 2013

The Port of Long Beach's Harbor Patrol shuttled a special passenger from Rainbow Harbor to a point about four miles beyond the breakwater on Thursday, Sept. 5.

Piloted by members of the Harbor Patrol's dive team, the boat carried an olive Ridley sea turtle, which earlier this year had been found near death on the beach in Venice and taken to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach for rehabilitation.

Wildlife veternarians and biologists nursed the reptile back to health, and when it came time to retur the turtle to the sea, needed a ride. The Port offered to carry the turtle and the Aquarium team out to sea for the dropoff, which took place in the morning.
