Metro, Oxbow Leases Renewed for Pier G Terminal

June 25, 2014

The Port of Long Beach has renewed long-term leases for dry bulk terminal operators Metropolitan Stevedore Co. (Metro) and Oxbow Cargo & Minerals LLC. Metro has provided stevedoring services in the Port since 1923 and operated a dry bulk terminal on Pier G since 1962. The terminal primarily exports petroleum coke, but also coal and other commodities. Oxbow operates a coal export facility under a sublease agreement with Metro. The Port renewed Metros lease for 20 years and Oxbows lease for 15 years. Environmental groups have challenged the renewals and are seeking more extensive environmental impact studies of the operations.
