ILWU, PMA Finalize Five-Year West Coast Contract

May 28, 2015

Employers who operate port terminals and shipping lines at 29 West Coast ports and the union representing nearly 20,000 workers who move the cargo have overwhelmingly approved a five-year contract.

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) announced May 22 that 82 percent of its members had voted in favor of the new contract. News of the ILWU vote followed a May 20 announcement from the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) that its 72-member companies had ratified the contract. PMA members are among the world’s leading shipping lines and terminal operators.

The new contract is retroactive to July 1, 2014, and extends through June 30, 2019. Long Beach Port of Harbor Commissioners President Doug Drummond congratulated the parties.
