Clean Air Action Plan Public Advisory Meeting Set for June 25

Second public advisory meeting of 2019 to be held in Wilmington

May 28, 2019

The second advisory meeting of 2019 to offer information on progress of the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) 2017 Update is scheduled for Tuesday, June 25, in Wilmington.

Up to four CAAP stakeholder advisory meetings a year were called for as part of the Clean Air Action Plan Update approved by the Los Angeles and Long Beach boards of Harbor Commissioners in November 2017. The first meeting of 2019 was held on March 13. Records of prior meetings can be found here.

The next advisory meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Banning’s Landing Community Center, 100 E. Water St., Wilmington, CA 90744. The meeting is open to the public.

The CAAP 2017 Update is a comprehensive strategy for accelerating progress toward a zero-emission future while protecting and strengthening the ports’ competitive position in the global economy. Since 2005, port-related air pollution emissions in San Pedro Bay have dropped 87 percent for diesel particulate matter, 58 percent for nitrogen oxides, and 97 percent for sulfur oxides. Targets for reducing greenhouse gases (GHGs) from port-related sources were introduced as part of the 2017 CAAP. The document calls for the ports to reduce GHGs 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030 and 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. The Clean Air Action Plan was originally approved in 2006.

Public comment will be taken at the advisory meeting to receive input on CAAP implementation issues. An agenda will be posted on the CAAP website prior to the meeting. For more information, visit www.cleanairactionplan.org.
