Board Names New Asst. Managing Director of Engineering
Port Engineering Veteran Al Moro Promoted to No. 2 Spot

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has promoted Assistant Chief Harbor Engineer Al Moro, P.E., to the position of Assistant Managing Director of Engineering.
As Assistant Managing Director of Engineering, Moro will serve as the Chief Harbor Engineer, overseeing all administrative and technical activities for the Port’s three Engineering Divisions: Design, Program Management and Construction Management.
Moro, who reports to Doug Thiessen, Managing Director of Engineering, has more than 35 years experience as a professional engineer. He joined the Port in 1997 as a Senior Civil Engineer and was promoted to Assistant Chief Harbor Engineer in March 2001. Moro has served as Acting Chief Harbor Engineer since Thiessen was promoted in March, 2007.
The board made the appointment at its meeting on Monday, June 4, 2007.
"We are very pleased to have Al in this higher position on our engineering management team," said Port Executive Director Richard D. Steinke. "His extensive engineering experience, leadership skills and in-depth knowledge of the harbor make him a perfect fit for this critical Port position."
Moro is a licensed professional engineer in the state of California and active in the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Association of Port Authorities Facilities Engineering Committee and the Western Dredging Association. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from UCLA and an MBA from Cal State Los Angeles.
