Steinke's 'State of the Port' Address

Port committed to meeting its challenges, says Executive Director

January 29, 2008

The Port of Long Beach is blazing a path as a business, environmental and community friendly port, and is fully committed to that new role, Port Executive Director Richard D. Steinke said Friday in his "State of the Port" address to a meeting of the International Business Association.

"It’s not good enough to be just another one of those ports on the West Coast – we’re different," Steinke said.

The Port is meeting the challenge to be an environmental steward, engage the community and enhance security, all while fostering maritime commerce and economic growth, Steinke said in his address.

"Somebody has to be the first ones, somebody has to step up and say, ‘We’re going to do it,’ " he said.
