CUT, Hyundai Honored For Major Community Donation

Commission recognizes terminal operator and shipping line for their community support

June 4, 2008

Port of Long Beach cargo terminal operator California United Terminals and its parent shipping line, Hyundai Merchant Marine, were recognized by the Board of Harbor Commissioners on Monday, June 2, 2008, for a recent donation of $100,000 to Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo High School.

Last month CUT and Hyundai made the donation to Cabrillo to support its international studies program(which focuses on international business, the environment, cultural diversity and international law), to purchase a scoreboard for the school’s athletic field, and to fund other projects.

The donation is the largest ever given to Cabrillo in its 13-year history.

“We see this as a great opportunity to uplift one of Long Beach’s most promising schools and contribute to the community,” said CUT President Elvis Ganda. “Cabrillo High represents some of the best and brightest that Long Beach has to offer. We believe in the school’s potential as a rising star, and we’re proud to be part of its development.”
