Port Sponsors Citywide Literacy Program

"Long Beach Reads One Book" Prepares Kick-off

The Port of Long Beach is sponsoring this year’s Long Beach Reads One Book reading celebration. The events will kick off this Sunday (March 12) at the Long Beach Main Library, 101 Pacific Avenue, from noon to 4 p.m. 

The afternoon will feature exhibits bringing to life some of the essays included in the featured book, “My California,” an anthology by 27 California authors. Interactive and educational exhibitors will include Long Beach Parks and Recreation with a mobile skate park, California State University Long Beach’s mini Japanese Garden, Rancho Los Cerritos, L.B. Neighborhood Services, L.B. Fire Department, Calif. Dept of Forestry and Fire Protection, Caltrans, and The Port of Long Beach, among others.

Other activities include the showing of the classic surfing film Five Summer Stories, a fly-fishing demonstration, and teen poetry open mike and readings from the book.
