Reminder: Health Grant Workshop Thursday
Port program offers $5 million to improve community health
October 25, 2010
The Port of Long Beach will host the third and final applicant workshop on Thursday, October 28 for the Port's $5 million Health Care and Senior Facilities Grant Program. The workshop offers assistance to those who intend to apply for this round of grants.
The grant program is designed to help medical centers, senior facilities and organizations improve community health by limiting exposure to air pollution and increasing health awareness in areas of Long Beach nearest to the Port and its trade corridors.
The workshop will be Thursday, October 28, 6-7:30 p.m., at the Mark Twain Library, 1401 E. Anaheim St., 90813.
Interested applicants should check for grant program updates at www.polb.com/healthgrants. Deadline for grant proposals is 4 p.m., November 23.
Applicant contact: Grants@polb.com or 1-888-789-GRANT (1-888-789-4726).
The first round of the Port's community grants recently announced nearly $5 million in aid to local schools and day-care facilities.
As with the schools grants, health-grant funding would be concentrated in zones of Long Beach closest to the Port.
The Health Care and Seniors Facilities Program is designed to help the individuals most vulnerable to the health effects of air pollution, such as children and the elderly. See the Port Mitigation Grant Programs fact sheet.
