Port of Long Beach Executive Director Richard D. Steinke on Friday delivered his annual “State of the Port” address to a record crowd of nearly 700 at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach.
The address, hosted by the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, came as the Port celebrates its 100th anniversary and on the heels of a banner year for cargo. In 2010, the Port posted its biggest container volume gains in history, recouping much of its losses during the recent recession.
"2010 was a pretty good 99th year for the Port of Long Beach," Steinke said to those gathered at the luncheon. "It was a fitting end to our first century of service and an appropriate launching pad for an even more remarkable next century. "
