Port Recognized for Contributions to Air Quality Program

Harbor Commissioner Nick Sramek Accepts Award for Community Efforts

February 25, 2011

The Port of Long Beach was recognized Thursday, Feb. 24 by the Westside Schools for Clean Air and the Interfaith Community Organization for the Port’s contributions to an Air Quality Management District (AQMD) grant program, which has brought air filtration systems to classrooms at Hudson School in West Long Beach, among other projects.

Harbor Commission President Nick Sramek (pictured) accepted the award on behalf of the Port and the Harbor Commissioners. Separately, through its own community grant program, the Port has awarded nearly $5 million to schools for air quality projects and is preparing to award an additional $5 million to health care and senior facilities. The Port program also includes funding for greenhouse gas reduction efforts.
