The Port of Long Beach will host its second annual Green Port Open House on Saturday, October 7, to provide the public with a close-up look at Port operations, including its wide-ranging “Green Port” environmental protection programs. The free event features exhibits, demonstrations, environmental port boat tours, entertainment, food and children’s activities. Last year, more than 2,000 people attended.
Highlights: -- Environmental port boat tours, -- Displays of giant cargo-handling equipment, -- Interactive look at Green Port environmental programs, -- Presentations on sweeping Clean Air Action Plan, -- Exhibits on new clean air technologies: “Cold ironing,” shore-side power and "sock on a stack" dockside air scrubbers. -- Demonstrations of security cargo screening, -- Distribution of seedlings for home tree planting, -- Electronic waste disposal and recycling (Ease E-Waste), -- Activities for children include: Aquarium sea creature touch tank, face painting, photo booth, "bounce house" and more.

Public Parking: Free parking at the Queen Mary. Shuttle buses will take visitors to and from the event. The Ease E-Waste electronic waste disposal station will be in the Queen Mary parking lot.
Directions: Via the Long Beach (710) Freeway: Take 710 south toward downtown Long Beach. Follow signs toward Queen Mary.
Via the Harbor (110) Freeway: Take the 110 South toward San Pedro. Take the 47 north toward Vincent Thomas Bridge, Terminal Island and Long Beach. In downtown Long Beach, turn right on Magnolia Avenue and follow signs to the Queen Mary.
